LAUNCHES May
16, 2003. e-KONG Group Limited("e-KONG " or the "Company),
listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE:524), today announced
the launch of its Level 1 American Depositary Receipt (ADR) Program. The
launch of this ADR Program is the first step in introducing the Company to the
U.S. capital markets, but it does not involve any capital raising. No new shares
have been issued by the Company pursuant to the ADR Program. A
Depositary Receipt is a negotiable certificate that represents a
non-US company’s publicly traded shares. This Level 1
ADR Program enables the Company’s shares to be priced and
quoted in US Dollars and traded as American securities in the
"Over-the-Counter" (OTC) market in the United States. Each
e-KONG ADR represents 200 e-KONG ordinary shares and trades under the
symbol “EKONY”. The Bank of New York was appointed as
the depositary bank under the Program and trading of e-KONG ADRs
commenced on May 16, 2003. This
ADR program was established in response to an increasing demand from
US investors requesting for such a means to invest in e-KONG. The
Company’s profile in the US has increased since its
wholly-owned subsidiary ZONE Telecom, Inc. (“ZONE US”)
commercially launched its unique nationwide domestic long-distance
and international telecommunications services in June 2001 under the
brand names, "ZoneLD" - targeted at individuals and small
businesses and "ZoneCMS" - targeted at large corporations
and enterprises. ZONE US's patented web-enabled technology allows
customers access to an unrivalled choice of telecom service providers
while empowering them with tools to effectively and efficiently
manage their telecommunications needs. “Most
of the investors interested in e-KONG are those who understand and
appreciate the growth prospects of the ZONE’s business in the
States” said Mr. Derrick Bulawa, President of ZONE Telecom,
Inc. “Investing at the parent level provides the investors
with an opportunity to participate in ZONE’s development in the
United States while at the same time shareholders of the Company,
including holders of the ADRs, will benefit from enhanced liquidity
and broadened shareholder base of the Company.” Investors
who wish to participate in the ADR Program are advised to consult
their professional advisers.
